The use of digital technologies in the delivery of orthodontic treatment is attracting attention among many orthodontists and laboratories. Dr Christensen will cover some the recent developments in digital workflows for the orthodontic practice. 3D image capture options will be illustrated and subsequently focus on the utilization of the technologies in all areas of the orthodontic practice from diagnosis and treatment planning, appliance production, indirect bonding strategies and design options. Illustrations of what can be produced in office with a relatively small investment will be shown and a discussion of advantages and disadvantages of some of the digital options will be presented. Finally, Dr Christensen will highlight some of the other areas where 3D data acquisition can help the orthodontist in the daily management of patients such as progress reviews and the end of treatment procedures such as fixed and removable retainer options as well as retention follow ups. Dr Christensen will endeavour to present more than one pathway for the use of the digital technologies including in office appliance production and collaboration with digital laboratories.
